DALLAS FANTASY FAIRS
The Dallas Fantasy Fair was, for many
years, the premiere comics-related event
in town. When the show went out of business in '96, many of us were
shocked and saddened. Here is a collection of photos from about a
half-dozen shows over the years -- at this point I have no idea what
happened at which show, and that's probably for the best. Because I was
more of a sf buff in those early days, this selection leans more heavily
towards actors rather than comic book guys. Just so you know.

JAMES O'BARR
Creator and original artist of THE CROW. |

| Of course,
guys dressed in goofy costumes are always a staple. |

FORREST J. ACKERMAN
The legendary FJA, creator and editor of the equally legendary
FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND, a magazine that wonderfully warped the
minds of millions of impressionable children (including me). |

BRINKE
STEVENS
The lovely Brinke Stevens -- known primarily as a Scream
Queen, although she also had her own comic book (BRINKE OF
DESTRUCTION) and was formerly married to Uber-artist Dave
(ROCKETEER) Stevens (and posed for many of his classic drawings) --
was one of the sweetest celebrities I've ever met. She was always
extremely gracious to her fans, and was not constantly
"hawking" herself when you came near her table. She really
seemed to enjoy meeting people, and she radiated charm. Here, she
was kind enough to pose with a copy of WET PAINT, a fanzine I was
publishing at the time.

BRINKE AND SOME OTHER GUY
That's me -- early '90s and on a REALLY bad hair day -- with
the Brinke of Lovlieness. |
