MARCH 2005

CON APPEARANCES FOR 2005

After a disappointing con year in '04, I'm limited my schedule to just a couple shows this year. Here's some info:

CAPE!
The first Comic and Pop-Culture Expo will be held Saturday, May 7th (Free Comic Book Day) from 10am - 6pm, in conjunction with Zeus Toys and Comics, Turtle Creek Village, 3878 Oak Lawn Ave., Dallas. This event was put together by our pal Scott Kurtz and HeroRealm.com, and should be a lot of fun. For more info, check:  http://www.herorealm.com/cape/index.htm

PROJECT A-KON 16
I had a great time at this cosplay/anime show last year, and decided to make it an annual event. June 3-5, 2005, at the Adam's Mark hotel in downtown Dallas. For more info:

February 2005

Hello to one and all. Well, I finally decided to jump on the blogging bandwagon, so here I am.

My resolution for ought-five is to spend more time being actively creative, since most of my first year as a free-lancer (2004) was spent goofing off for long periods of time, and then furiously throwing a bunch of stuff up on ebay to get the rent paid, or working long, brain-frying sessions as a contract writer for Heritage Auctions, which left me totally drained at the end of the day. I have more free time now than at any point in my professional life, and I'm determined to make the best of it.

MORE FUND COMICS is now in comic book stores, with the first (and only) new Bulldog Malone story of '04, "Welcome to My World." There's tons of cool artwork, stories and sketches, all wrapped up in a gorgeous Frank Cho Spider-Man cover, and our pal Scott Kurtz gets the hilarous last word. All that for only $10, so don't delay -- pick it up today!

Believe it or not, I'll be doing THREE more shows before the end of the year, so come on out and say hi. Here are the dates:

SUPERHERO AND SCI-FI COLLECTOR'S EXPO Oct 9-10, San Antonio, TX

DALLAS COMICON (Guests from STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION, and more!) Oct 23-24, Plano TX

...and last but not least I will be in Artist's Alley for WIZARDWORLD TEXAS at Arlington Nov. 5-7, with Jim Lee, Erica Durance from SMALLVILLE, and plenty more cool guests. I'll post my table number when I get it in.

August 2004

Hi folks,
SORRY for the long haul between updates, but lots is going on here are Complex Central. YES, I will be attending the Chicago Comicon this weekend (Aug. 13-15). I will be set up in ARTIST'S ALLEY at the East end of the convention center; my table number is 9087-B. As of today, I have no idea who my table-mate is, but keep yer eyes peeled for Bulldog Malone and you should find me with no problem. Looks to be a super-fun show, and I hope some of you will stop by and say hello.

My other exciting news is that I have just complete a NEW 4-page "Bulldog Malone" story for the upcoming anthology EVEN MORE FUND COMICS, edited and published by my pal John Gallagher. More info on this cool trade paperback as it nears publication, but for now here's a look at the wicked cool Spider-Man cover by none other than FRANK CHO:

JES_stanlee.jpg (31427 bytes)"The toughest thing a writer/artist can do is come with a concept that's excitingly new and original. Well, Jolly JE Smith has done just that with his off-the-wall Complex City. There's never been a hero like his unflappable Bulldog Malone, or characters like Fidge Dextro and Max of Two Minds. I salute Jeff's brilliantly twisted imagination and thank him for giving us one of the cleverest, not-to-be-missed comics in years!"
